Urology Hospital in Hanamkonda
What to expect if your treatment needs admission — from the day before surgery to the day you go home.
Urology Hospital in Hanamkonda
Most urological problems are handled in the outpatient clinic. But some need admission — a large stone requiring PCNL, prostate resection, a urethroplasty, or an emergency such as an obstructed infected kidney that will not wait.
When that happens, what matters is not the size of the building but a short list of practical things: whether the theatre is equipped for endoscopic work, whether there is piped oxygen and nursing cover through the night, and whether the surgeon who operates is the one who reviews you afterwards.
RAMS provides inpatient urological care in Hanamkonda with a dedicated endoscopic theatre, recovery beds with piped oxygen and suction, and 24-hour nursing. This page sets out what an admission here actually involves, because knowing the sequence in advance removes most of the anxiety around it.
What an admission here involves, step by step
Before admission
Pre-operative assessment covers blood tests, urine culture and fitness for anaesthesia. Any urinary infection is treated before surgery, not during — operating through an infected urinary tract is how avoidable complications happen. Blood thinners and diabetic medication are reviewed and adjusted.
The day of surgery
Fasting instructions are given in writing. Most stone and prostate procedures here are endoscopic — performed through the natural passage or a small puncture — so there is no large incision to recover from.
Immediately after
Recovery beds have piped oxygen, suction and continuous nursing. A catheter is usual after prostate and stone surgery, and how long it stays is explained before you go to theatre rather than after.
Length of stay
Most endoscopic stone and prostate procedures involve one to two nights. Urethroplasty needs longer, with a catheter for two to three weeks afterwards. You are told the expected stay before you consent, not on the day.
Going home
Written discharge instructions cover medication, activity limits, what is normal and what is not. Blood-tinged urine for a few days after stone surgery is expected; heavy bleeding, fever or inability to pass urine means come straight back.
Follow-up with the same surgeon
The person who operated reviews you. For stones, that review includes the metabolic prevention plan — because a stone removed without prevention tends to be a stone that returns.

Attendants and visitors
One attendant may stay with an admitted patient. Because many of our patients attend for sensitive conditions, we keep visitor numbers low and the ward quiet by design.

Frequently Asked
How long will I be admitted for stone surgery?
Most endoscopic stone procedures involve a stay of one to two nights. PCNL for a large stone may be slightly longer. Your expected stay is explained before you consent to the procedure.
Will I need a catheter, and for how long?
A catheter is usual after prostate and some stone procedures, typically for a short period, and a ureteric stent may stay longer. The duration is explained beforehand — stents commonly cause urinary frequency and some discomfort, which settles once removed.
Can a family member stay with me?
Yes, one attendant may stay. We keep visitor numbers deliberately low, partly for infection control and partly because many patients here are attending for conditions they would rather not discuss in a crowded room.
What if a complication happens at night?
There is nursing cover around the clock and the centre is open 24 hours. You are given clear written guidance on what warrants calling immediately — fever, heavy bleeding or inability to pass urine among them.
